The fall fishing is wide open.

The fall fishing is wide open. Most of big Spanish mackerel has left the bay in wake of these last cold fronts passing through, but there are still some around and still more to come as they migrate from the west. For the Spanish I use casting spoons on light tackle, watch for the diving birds, when you see some surface activity cast your lures in that direction. You’ll catch Blue fish and big Skip Jacks as well. It won’t be long before these fish are headed south; the water temperature yesterday was 72 degrees.
The good news is that there’s a big school of Bull Reds roaming Pensacola Bay, keep your eyes peeled for them, they could pop up right beside you at any given time. The big schools are showing up on the beach also. Last Saturday I found a school of 3000 plus fish it was huge, we caught 25 or so fish out of it and went on our way. We found them again yesterday south of the old Coast Guard on Pensacola Beach.
You can catch all the White Trout you want right now around the three-mile and Garson Point bridges. Lead-heads with a gulp shrimp will catch them. You’ll catch a Flounder or two doing the same thing, these flat fishes are heading towards the passes on their annual fall migration.
In the Gulf, its all Red Snapper, everybody is trying to get the last fish in the freezer for the winter. State water season closes October 31st. That’s not all that’s eating though; I’ve been catching some nice Trigger Fish, Lane Snapper, Mangrove Snapper and an occasional keeper Grouper. Keep your eye out for the schooling False Albacore these guys are a blast on light tackle and they’re abundant right now.
There’s lots more to report about but I think you get the idea, IT”S TIME FOR THE RUNNING OF THE BULLS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ten percent of the water holds ninety percent of the fish, Ten percent of the fisherman catch ninety percent of the fish.
I know one thing for sure - You ain’t going to catch’em sittin’ on the couch!! So get out there, and take a kid fishing. God Bless.
